#17 Take a class that sparks your interest
Enjoy what you're learning.
We are forced to take so many classes here that we just don't want to take. Sign yourself up for a class that you would find interesting. At least you would have one class you'd definitely enjoy going to.
#16 Go to the SGA Movies
IT IS FREE!!
As a college student there is nothing better than the word free. SGA plays newly released movies in the student center every weekend for free. Technically, you're paying for it through tuition so take advantage of it. They are usually always great movies too.
#15 Go on a real spring break
We go to school in a very boring town, and most of us probably don't go home to a beach side house. So save some money up for a few years and take a nice spring break trip with your friends. Florida, California, the Carolina's it doesn't matter. Go somewhere warm and go somewhere fun!
#14 Get a pet
I know that this isn't possible for everyone, but if you are able to get a pet GET ONE.
Getting my kitten was the best decision I made. I was always a dog person growing up, but a dog is a lot harder to take care of than a cat when you're in college. People argue that they are just expensive and they smell, but having a pet is worth it. Plus, they aren't that expensive and they only stink if you don't clean them.
At the end of a long day, a pet is always there to cuddle and make it better!
#13 Climb the water tower
You would have to get over a barbed wire fence first, but if you can do that climb the water tower. Things that are forbidden are always more fun and it would be a great story to tell later. If you decide to do this, please be safe and don't blame me if you get in trouble!
#12 Go to a sporting event
Whether it's a football, basketball, baseball, soccer, rugby, whatever, go support our school!
School spirit is huge here! Nobody wants to be apart of a school that has no school spirit. Plus, games are so much fun to go to! Some of my best college memories involve tailgating and football games with my friends.
You don't even have to like sports to have fun, I promise. Just go with your friends and you'll have a great time!
Be proud to call yourself a Slippery Rock Student, support your teams!

#11 Eat at Bobs Sub
The best
sub you'll ever eat. Honestly, I don't see the point in the local
Subway. It's located on Main Street next to Ginger Hill. If you haven't
tried it already, go eat if for dinner tonight. You're welcome.
#10 Go to Ginger Hill
When you turn 21 go to the local bar. There is nothing better than a college bar with all your friends.
#9 Get perfect attendence in a class
Every
time you skip a class, go flush a hundred dollar bill down the toilet.
If you know how much money you are paying to sit in each of those
classes, you will realize that it's practically the same thing.
You wouldn't be a normal college student if you didn't skip a class
every once in a while. Every student knows that it won't kill them to
miss one class, it's when you start missing one class per week that it
becomes a problem. But here's a challenge, pick a course one semester
and go to every single class. Awful sounding, I know, but at the end of
the semester you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment. It truly is a
rewarding feeling when you complete that goal.
My sophomore year I had a professor that bribed students to come to
class. His policy was if you came to every single one he would drop your
2 lowest grades and add an A at the end of the semester. It was a
difficult class to get an A in due to the grading policy so I took him
up on that deal. Not only did it proved to me that it is possible, but
it showed me how important going to class actually is. It was crazy to
me how much more information I actually recalled just from sitting
through all the classes.

#8 Pee on the rock in the quad
It is a Slippery Rock tradition to rub the rock in the quad for luck according to facility. According to students, it's tradition to pee on said rock. It's your choice whose advise you would like to follow, but keep in mind even if you decide peeing on the rock is immature, rubbing it probably wouldn't be your best decision either.

#7 Make friends with a stranger
Remember the 'Say Hello' policy Slippery Rock has? Then one that says you should smile and say hi to everyone you see on campus... Do it. Be a friendly face on campus. Say hi to people, you never know whose day you'll boost.
Your best friend was a stranger at one point until the universe pushed you to meet. So say hello to a random person, you never know what kind of friendship could bloom!

#6 Do a keg stand
If you ever find yourself at a kegger (which is very possible at Slippery Rock), kick them feet in the air and start chuggin'. It'll make for a good story someday. That's all I'm saying.

#5 Get a tattoo/piercing
You're in college, you're 18, you don't need mommy and daddy's permission for everything anymore. Be a rebel, and do it because you can.
The day I turned 18 I got my nose pierced. Two weeks after moving into college I got my first tattoo. College is the fun, exploratory time in your life. I'm not saying go out an ink your whole body. Tattoo's are permanent so be sure it's something you'll always want on your body. My favorite tattoo is the one I drew for my grandfather after he passed away, it's special to me and makes me smile every time I look at it.
If tattoo's aren't your thing, consider getting a piercing. Still fun and rebellious but it doesn't have to be in your skin forever. I got my monroe done freshman year of college, but I took it out now that I am looking to get an internship. You can barley even tell I ever had it done.
Tattoo's and piercings aren't for everyone, but my advice is if you want one, get one. If you're worried about future jobs, get one in a spot where you can easily hide it. That's not hard, believe me. And lastly, one thing to really look into is your tattoo artist. Nobody wants a bad tattoo. Trust no one until you've seen their work. Trust me on that.
#4 Take advantage of our campus
One thing that no one can argue is that Slippery Rock is a beautiful campus. Stop and admire its beauty every once in a while.
It's no secret that college is expensive, but what you have to remember is that the money we pay goes towards the things we have access to on campus. For example, the ARC, the guest speakers and concerts, the new Student Center, the Health Center, the Happy Bus, etc. Our school provides us with all the things, make sure you are taking advantage of them.
#3 Live off campus
As a Slippery Rock freshman, you are required to live in the dorms your first year here, but after that you are free to do as you please. The new dorms here are extremely nice as far as college dorm rooms go, so lots of students decide to live in them for multiple years. If that's what you want to do cool, but I'm telling you, spend at least one year living off campus in an apartment or house.
I'm sure every student can recall the immense amount of freedom they felt when they first got to school. That's what it feels like moving into your very first apartment with your best friend. Yeah paying rent and utilities stinks, but it's totally worth it to have your own bedroom and a kitchen.
There are a lot of places to live off campus in Slippery Rock. The Heights, The Ivy (University Village), and The Grove are three really nice ones to consider, but they are also higher in cost. If you're looking for cheap but fun, Keister (Pine Glenn) is always an option. There is also South Rock, Cooper Street, Stone Crest, The Summit, and lots of little college houses!
You won't find anyone who lives off campus that doesn't love it. Dorms are nice, but an apartment is home.

#2 Go to a party
College is a stressful, it's okay to let loose sometimes.
I'm pretty sure every college student has heard the 'college is about your education not partying' speech from their parents at one point or another. Yes, college is about your education but it's also about branching out and having a good time.
Learning how to balance a social life with school work is something every college student has to learn how to do. School work is the most important thing, but you need to have some fun too. Go out with your friends, have a few drinks (if you want), dance, laugh, play beer bong.
I know I probably don't have to convince many of you to go out, but for the people who are afraid they will neglect their school work or get in trouble; don't. Two simple words: be responsible. Get your work done before you go out on Friday night or do it Sunday. Don't carry around marked containers of alcohol. Don't wonder off by yourself. Don't drink more than you can handle.
Two parties I suggest every Slippery Rock student should attend are the UVSR Block Party at the beginning of the school year and The Heights Pig Roast at the end of the year. Both are outdoor events and a great time. Go with your friends, I promise you won't regret it.

I am by no means saying you go out every weekend and get blasted, but I am suggesting you go out and have a good time with your friends sometimes.

#1: Join a club. Or 2. Or 10.
I know the thought of giving up an hour of your time to sit through a meeting doesn't sound as appealing as an hour of Netflix does, but I promise it will pay off for you in the long run.
Getting involved and making the most of your time in college is important. Employers will look to see how you spent your spare time in college, especially if you were involved with clubs and organizations pertaining to your major. Extracurricular activities are a big part of your resume, if you don't have any it looks like you sat around and watched Netflix all day. Employers don't want that; they want hard working, social, outgoing people to fill their positions.
Not only do clubs boost your resume, but they are also a great way to make friends. Even if you think you have allllllllll the friends you want right now, there is always room for more friends! Plus, it’s always nice to meet people in clubs because you most likely have common interests. Then there's always something to talk about.
Fraternities/Sororities would also be considered a club. The thing with Greek life is people either like it or they don't. Some people will try to talk you out of it because 'It's just a way to buy your friends' and 'They're full of preppy stuck up people,' but don't listen to them. Every Greek I know loves it, they truly have a brother/sister bond and they always seem to be having a good time. Greek is not my thing, but I would never try to talk anyone out of it. Do what makes YOU happy.
If you are thinking about getting involved and you’re just not sure what club would suit you best, there is a Clubs and Organization Fair at the beginning of the school year. You will be able to talk to some of the members from each of the groups to see what each one is all about. There are over 200 clubs and organizations, so I’m sure you will be able to find one that fits you.
Don't be that kid that sits in their room all day. College is about socializing, meeting new people, and most importantly building your future. Join a club, get involved. I promise you won't regret it.

Slippery Rock University is a big college in a small town. It is located in a tiny place called, yes you guessed it... Slippery Rock Pennsylvania. It's about an hour north of Pittsburgh, give or take a few minutes. Approximately 8,000 students call this little hole in the wall home, and we are damn proud to do so. College is the time to have fun and make memories, but it's not always easy to find things to do in a tiny little town like ours. So I have come up with a list for all you fine Slippery Rock students of things you should to do before you graduate from this place. Your time in college goes faster than you'd think, so make sure to make the most of it while you still can.
